Water pressure can vary depending on the location of your property and the location of our water storage tanks.
After your drinking water is treated, we send it to storage basins and tanks. The tanks are located in elevated areas near the townships.
As the water flows, gravity provides the necessary pressure to get water to homes and businesses.
Water flow rates can vary and depend on where your property is. Flow may differ due to the elevation of your property and the elevation of water storage tanks. The the distance from the tanks to your property may also be a factor.
In some areas, we use pumping stations to boost pressure to supply water at an appropriate flow rate.
Pressure fluctuations
Pressure fluctuations occur from time to time. These could be due to high water demand, or the switching on or off of nearby pumping stations.
On very hot days when there is a greater demand for water on the system, water pressure is likely to drop.
Water main bursts
We respond to water main leaks or bursts. If you spot a burst water main, please report it to us on 13 44 99.
If we turn the water mains on following a repair, we do it gradually to avoid water pressure surges. The flow rate at your property should return to the same level not long after the interruption.
Altering your water pressure
The pressure at your property is at the level it is to ensure that the system operates adequately.
After tapping into the water main, it is the property owner's responsibility to control the pressure of water within their property:
If your water pressure is too high, call a licensed plumber to fit a 'Pressure Limiting Valve'. The cost of fitting the valve, and its maintenance, is the responsibility of the property owner.
If you are experiencing low water pressure problems please call us on 13 44 99.
