Watch the Minister for Water Hon. Gayle Tierney MP announcing the 2025 statewide winners:
Hello everyone.
It is a pleasure to announce the winners of the 2025 National Water Week poster competition.
Firstly, I'd like to begin by acknowledging the traditional owners of the land on which we are all on. For me, it is the land of the Waranderie people and I want to pay my respects to their elders both past, present, and future. And of course, Aboriginal elders from other communities may be watching this message.
Water is truly at the heart of everything. From the water in our taps to the waterways we swim in. But clean, safe, secure water is often something we take for granted.
National Water Week is our yearly reminder to think about water and how we can work together to ensure we can make the most of this precious resource.
This year's theme is water heroes save every drop. It was fantastic to see so many of your beautiful posters and creative ideas. Your posters show us that saving water does not have to be complicated. It can be simple acts such as brushing your teeth with the tap turned off, having shorter showers, or remembering to use the half flush. These small habits are where real change begins.
Here in Victoria, this message is especially important. The Allen Labor government is backing schools and students to lead the way on saving water through initiatives such as the school's water efficiency program. By learning about water conservation at school, young people can build lifelong habits that will help safeguard our water security for generations to come. So today, we are not just celebrating artwork. We are celebrating learning, leadership, and action.
I'd like to congratulate each and every one of this year's National Water Week poster competition winners and everyone who got involved. You have shown that young people are already powerful communicators and leaders when it comes to caring for the environment and using water wisely.
Everyone who participated has already become a water hero. Take the lessons you have learned home. Remind your family and friends how they can help save our most precious resource.
Together, we can all build a future where every drop of water counts.
