Keeping your account safe is a team effort. We’re always working to protect your information and you can help too.
Ways to protect your account
Here are some important ways to protect your account:
If you receive communication, like a call, text or email, that you think might not be from us, report it immediately by calling us on 13 44 99.
Always use trusted channels to make payments or changes to your account.
Think before you click. Watch out for phishing scams, text messages and emails from unknown senders. Phishing is a type of scam where cybercriminals try to trick you into sharing personal information, like passwords or credit card numbers. They do this by contacting you – via email, text message, social media or a phone call - pretending to be a company and asking you to click on a link.
Choose a unique password that is hard to guess and change it regularly.
Keep your devices updated and install antivirus software. Avoid clicking on unknown links or downloading apps from sources you don’t trust.
Multi-factor authentication (MFA) makes it harder for unauthorised users to access your account because it asks you to provide two bits of information to log in, your password and a code sent to your mobile. MFA will be available for use on our new online account, My GWW, which is coming soon.
Checking that the message is from us
If you receive unusual or unexpected communication from us, you can confirm the information by calling 13 44 99.
If we email you, we will always send from email addresses ending in gww.com.au
If we send you a text message, the sender will be GWW.
Scammers often use unknown numbers and strange links. If someone contacts you from an unexpected email or phone number, check the sender address, look out for spelling mistakes and requests for personal information. Don't click on links unless you're sure it's safe.
Watch out for calls asking for sensitive information or threatening consequences. If in doubt, hang up and call us.
Things we will never do
Threaten to disconnect your water service.
Ask for your personal banking details over email or on the phone.
Call you asking for a payment over the phone.
Keep yourself protected
Staying vigilant against cybercriminals is a continuous effort.
