We want all our customers to experience a similar level of service at a fair and similar price.
To bring our prices closer together, price adjustments were approved by the ESC in the two years leading into 2024, and we have engaged with customers on how to best align our prices in the future.
We are working to have a single set of prices and charges for all GWW customers, simplifying tariff structures and transitioning prices across our service region over time.
In the meantime, we will maintain distinct central and western pricing zones.
What your bills pay for
Your payments contribute to so much more than just the safe, reliable drinking water that comes out of your tap. You’re also helping to pay for the continual upgrade and development of the infrastructure we need to treat and supply water for our growing communities.
Your payments also contribute to:
the collection, treatment, re-use and disposal of billions of litres of sewage and wastewater
the delivery and maintenance of thousands of kilometres of water and sewer pipes
customer service, cyber security and new sustainable technologies
community support programs and maintaining waterways, local parks and green spaces.
Other charges
We collect the following charges on behalf of other government organisations.
Waterways and drainage charge
We collect the waterways and drainage charge on behalf of Melbourne Water. This charge helps protect and improve the health of our rivers and creeks, and also supports regional drainage services, flood protection and warning systems.
We collect the parks charge from property owners on behalf of the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA). From 1 July 2024, this has changed from an annual charge to quarterly. Spreading out the parks charge makes it easier to manage payments in quarterly instalments. It will still be listed separately on your bill so you can see how much it is.
The parks charge helps DEECA to manage and maintain Melbourne’s iconic parks, trails, zoos and waterways and the Shrine of Remembrance.
Although this change will affect most property owners, some who are not connected to our water system will continue to receive the parks charge annually.
