We regularly repair and upgrade our pipes to make sure they're reliable
When your water pipes can't keep up with demands because of issues like faults, aging, or disrepair, we replace them. We do this so that we can continue to deliver safe and reliable water to you.
We also partner with local councils to take advantage of their renewal projects. If they’re upgrading the roads, we’ll try to upgrade our water pipes at the same time.
We’ll let you know what to expect during each renewal project and work with local council, public transport providers, and the community to minimise disruptions.
We collaborate with Downer and Interflow to carry out our renewal works.
Renewal works process
Preparation
Before works start our crew will visit the proposed work site. You might spot us surveying your neighbourhood to find the safest and most efficient methods for doing our work.
We’ll let you know that works are starting at least five days before they begin.
Start
We work Monday to Friday, between 7am and 5pm, but sometimes, we need to work at night. We’ll coordinate night works with road management authorities and the council when needed.
There may be some changes to traffic and parking around the work site.
There may be noise during our works. Whenever possible, we'll do the loudest work earlier in the evening, but noise can still occur throughout the night. Night works are sometimes essential so we can avoid busy daytime hours, which can cause traffic delays and safety risks to the community and workers.
Temporary supply
Sometimes we’ll connect your property to a temporary pipe to supply your water during renewal works, as we’re working on the main pipe.
Your water quality and taste supply will not change but you may notice a change in your water temperature or pressure.
Water from your cold tap may be warmer than usual, particularly in warmer weather. You may experience slightly lower water pressure than normal during periods of peak demand.
Notice: Fire suppression systems
Water won’t be available to fire suppression systems during renewal works, unless we advise otherwise.
If your property has a fire suppression system, please talk to your building manager or relevant authority for advice on fire management planning.
Reconnection
You may have a water supply outage as we reconnect the water mains near the end of works.
We'll let you know in advance by leaving a calling-card if there’s a planned outage.
Restoration
Once the project is complete, we’ll fix any roads, driveways and nature strips that we altered during the works.
It may take up to three weeks after the project is complete for this work to begin.
During restoration works, there may be machinery noise in the area and changes to traffic and parking.
