We offer two types of funding under our Thriving Communities grants and sponsorships program, local community sponsorships and community grants.
Our service area is diverse, vibrant and growing and we want everyone to participate in the life of our region. We have two types of grants available, so that we can support a variety of local community initiatives.
There are a few things to consider when deciding which grant is right for you, including the type of organisation you’re from and the project you’re running. Before you start your application, get familiar with which grant is right for your project.
The kind of organisation you are
Local community sponsorships are open to not-for-profit organisations in our service area.
Community grants are available to not-for-profit organisations, educational and health organisations, and local government.
The project, event or initiative you’d like to run
A local community sponsorship is perfect for you if your project gives the community the opportunity to gather and celebrate, like community festivals.
If you’re providing learning or career opportunities in the water sector, like a mentoring program, then a community grant is more appropriate for your project. Community grants also support local industry-based projects, like research and agricultural initiatives, any project that has larger outcomes or partner with other funders to deliver the project.
Both local community sponsorships and community grants support projects that promote sustainable water use, like increasing tree canopy, revegetation and habitat restoration. This is just some of the types of projects we support, if you're unsure, get in touch.
The timing of your project
To be eligible for a local community sponsorship, your project must be completed by 30 June 2026.
For a community grant your project must commence prior to June 2026.
Another key difference between local community sponsorships and community grants is the amount of funding available under each stream. Local community sponsorships provide up to $5,000 for community activities and events. Community grants provide up to $20,000 for projects that help our community, environment and industry grow and thrive.
