Installing a water-efficient showerhead is one of the easiest ways to improve water efficiency in your home.
A water-efficient showerhead can save up to 50 litres of water for each shower – that's up to 20,000 litres of water per person a year.
How to remove and replace your old showerhead
Make sure the shower taps are turned off.
Remove the existing showerhead arm (turn it anticlockwise), using a spanner and cloth if needed. Do not force the arm, as you may damage the tiling or wall.
Clean the thread of the supply outlet with steel wool or a stiff brush, and dry the area thoroughly.
Wind six rotations of Teflon tape around the supply outlet. Keep the outermost thread clear of tape.
Place the flange over the supply outlet.
Use a spanner and cloth to attach the showerhead to the arm.
Screw the new showerhead arm onto the supply outlet (turn it clockwise to tighten).

Dos and don’ts of changing your showerhead
Don’t reverse the screwing action, as this will break the Teflon seal.
Always use a spanner and a cloth to fix the showerhead. Don’t use the actual shower arm, as it may break.
Don’t over-tighten the shower arm, as you may damage the wall tiling or plumbing fittings.
If you have difficulty with any of the steps described above, call a plumber.
If you have a gravity-fed hot water service or an older instantaneous hot water service, you may need to seek assistance from a plumber.
