Greater Western Water (GWW) is your water corporation. We provide trusted water and wastewater services to Melbourne and the fast-growing western region, from the MCG to the Macedon Ranges.
We supply drinking water and recycled water to homes, communities and businesses, and take away wastewater so it can be treated and reused.
Our aim is to make sure your water and wastewater services are reliable, affordable and secure for decades to come.
Drinking water
Every year, we provide more than 113 billion litres of high-quality drinking water to around 1.3 million people.
Our water supply system is made up of:
7,562 km of water supply mains that distribute the water.
17 dams and water catchments that collect and store water.
7 groundwater bores that supply water from underground aquifers.
35 pump stations that pump the water through the pipes.
7 water filtration plants that clean and treat the water so it’s safe to drink.
Wastewater (sewerage) services
Every year, we collect 108 billion litres of wastewater.
Our sewerage system is made up of:
6,407km of wastewater mains that collect and transport the wastewater.
141 pump stations that pump the wastewater through the pipes.
8 recycled water plants that treat the wastewater and make it safe to use.
Recycled water
Recycled water is wastewater that has been collected and treated so it can be used to water gardens, flush toilets and wash cars, among other things. Recycled water is not used for drinking.
Each year, GWW produces around 6.3 billion litres of recycled water. Our recycled water system is made up of:
810km of recycled water mains that transport the water.
7 stormwater harvesting schemes that collect, treat and reuse stormwater.
2 pump stations that pump the water through the pipes.
