Temporary water supply change for Melton West, Harkness and Kurunjang
20 September 2021
As part of routine maintenance being carried out to our network, Greater Western Water is temporarily changing the water supply in some neighbourhoods in the Melton region.
Some parts of Melton West, Harkness and Kurunjang, will switch to the Merrimu Reservoir supply. Currently, these neighbourhoods are supplied by water from the Melbourne supply system.
The supply change will begin 21 September and will go back to the Melbourne system once works are complete on 23 September.
What will I notice when the supply changes?
Some customers may notice a slight change to the taste and odour to their water supply during the changeover period.
The water supplied will continue to meet Australian Drinking Water Guidelines for health and safety.
Why does the water supply change?
Greater Western Water uses a number of water sources to ensure a secure water supply for customers.
Having access to multiple sources ensures we can meet demand, cater for a growing population, and manage water supplies when inflows are low.
When local supplies are low, or reservoirs are at decreased capacity, supply changes ensure our customers have access to water that is safe, healthy to drink and meets the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.
Sometimes, there are exceptions to this rule. From time to time, we may need to bring supply changes forward when upgrade works are being carried out, or when weather conditions increase demand.
