Our women in STEM: from science graduate to future leader
13 June 2023
Meet Alex
Alex Mobilia’s early career in soil science led her to the water industry and to our graduate program. After four years at GWW, she’s now a strategist in our Business Planning and Strategy team.
The graduate program is practical, engaging, and challenging. It gives recent STEM graduates the opportunity to gain hands-on skills and experience in the water sector. For Alex, whose background is in both science and engineering, the program gave her the chance to continue to explore her two passions.
In her role, Alex feels a connection to community and to the environment and she loves the sense of fulfillment she feels working with us.
“Working in the water industry has a direct impact on both people, in providing an essential service, as well as being able to positively impact and protect the environment for future generations.”
As part of the grad program, Alex rotated through several parts of the business, getting a taste of everything from planning and construction to maintenance and operation.
“I have had many opportunities to present my work and lead working groups both internally and externally, as well as becoming our sewage quality systems lead, allowing me to share my learnings by providing internal training to raise awareness of risks and controls to the wider business.”
These different experiences have helped Alex feel more confident in her technical and leadership skills. In her day-to-day, Alex brings all the experiences from her time in the grad program to help shape GWW’s vision for the future.
“GWW has helped me build confidence and thrive under guidance and support of my mentors as well as following the path of the many women we have at GWW in critical roles and leadership positions.”
We’re much more than water and there’s plenty of ways that you can work with us. Go to our careers page to see the latest opportunities and find out more about why you should work at GWW.
