Today, 1 July 2021, Victoria’s newest water corporation, Greater Western Water (GWW), was launched to deliver better water services to 1.2 million people from Melbourne’s inner city to the fast-growing western region.
Greater Western Water was formed by bringing together Western Water and City West Water.
Led by Maree Lang, GWW Managing Director, the new water corporation will support and grow regional jobs, consolidate $1.5 billion worth of investment over five years and serve one-fifth of Victoria’s population.
Member for Sunbury Josh Bull MP, GWW Board Chair David Middleton and Ms Lang welcomed the formation of GWW, with a launch event today at GWW’s Sunbury Office.
David Middleton said Greater Western Water will service one of the fastest growing regions in Australia.
“With the population of Melbourne’s west expected to double over the next 30 years, Greater Western Water will be well placed to meet growing service demands and maintain reliable, affordable services for all our customers.”
Maree Lang said it was an incredible honour to lead and serve an authority that will deliver better water services to a region of 1.2 million people and growing.
“As Greater Western Water we are now in a strong position to efficiently provide the new water infrastructure we need for a growing population and healthy, liveable communities.
“Importantly, we will also be supporting jobs and economic activity while retaining a strong presence right across our region.”
Today’s event also marked the official unveiling of GWW’s new brand, which resulted from consultation with 450 community members and stakeholders and was inspired by the way changing water levels create ever-varied shapes in the landscape.
The new GWW brand features on the new website, bills and other customer information.
