Greater Western Water leading in diversity with latest survey results
9 September 2022
Over 76% of Greater Western Water (GWW) people took part in our recent Diversity and Inclusion survey and results show we are on track to achieve our diversity commitments and exceeding in some areas.
Cultural and linguistic diversity is a great area of strength for our organisation with 40% of our employees indicating they speak a language other than English.
Other highlights showed that 37% of our team were born overseas across 52 different nations, and First Nations peoples and LGBTQI+ communities are well represented, forming 2% and 5% of our workforce respectively.
We are also meeting the collective Victorian water target for accessibility ahead of schedule, with 10% of our people identifying as having a disability.
The results show that GWW is well on its way to delivering our commitment to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion at work.
Our Chief People Officer, Louise Meadows says diversity in the workplace is an important asset, as it acknowledges the unique potential of each employee and contributes to a thriving workplace and fair work culture.
“Embracing diversity in the workplace fosters an inclusive work environment where everyone is valued, respected and engaged.
Diverse organisations like ours have more to offer as we can provide a larger scope of experience, ideas and innovation.
It also reflects our culturally-rich service area and enables us to be better equipped to deliver trusted services for these customers and communities”.
The survey results will help support actions set out in GWW’s first Gender Equality Action Plan (GEAP), which was issued earlier in the year.
The four-year plan forms part of GWW’s commitment to meet and exceed the requirements of the Gender Equality Act 2020, the first legislation of its kind in Victoria.
