Update on Romsey wet weather recycled water releases
14 December 2022
With above-average seasonal rainfall, we’ve been monitoring water storage levels at the Romsey Recycled Water Plant daily.
Inflows to the plant continue to be higher than usual for this time of year and the storage lagoons at the Romsey Recycled Water Plant (RWP) are again at capacity.
To prevent an uncontrolled spill of raw sewage, Greater Western Water (GWW) has notified EPA Victoria that we will undertake a further controlled release of treated Class B recycled water to Deep Creek, commencing Thursday 15 December.
Based on recent and forecast rainfall, we expect this release to continue for about 10 days or until the plant reaches a safe operating level.
We will use strict, independent water quality monitoring processes to protect the health of the community and environment. This remains a priority for us.
While we are continuing to exhaust our options to transport and reuse the water, further releases are necessary to prevent an uncontrolled overflow and protect the plant’s infrastructure.
Affected downstream property owners have been notified of this further release.
Locals are encouraged to contribute their knowledge and have their say on readying Romsey and the Macedon Ranges for managing water in the future via our online survey until Tuesday 20 December.
