Over the next 18 months, Greater Western Water is investing more than $260 million in infrastructure projects that will support safe, reliable and affordable access to our services across Melbourne’s city and north-western region.
The infrastructure program is part of a 10-year capital program to invest $1.5 billion across our fast-growing region.
We expect to tender out more than $200 million of contracts across the next 12 months. These include projects to design and construct new infrastructure to support growth, as well as works to renew ageing pipes and pumps or upgrade plant and equipment.
Acting on these important projects now will ensure continued water security as we face two big challenges:
• sustained population growth - a lot of extra people who need water, and
• climate change - as our service area becomes drier over the long-term, with more extreme weather events.
This investment will also create and support local jobs, and provide infrastructure needed into the future by businesses and industries who rely on a secure water supply for their operations.
These projects extend right across our service area – from Lancefield and Woodend in the north to Myrniong in the west, and from Melbourne’s CBD out to Werribee.
