Planned shutdown request (drinking and recycled water)
Requesting a shutdown
If you need to shutdown access to drinking water or recycled water, you will need to:
make sure the site has been reviewed and your assets are working
complete any preparation works
fill in the planned shutdown form at least 15 working days before your planned shutdown (or seven working days if no customers are affected by the shutdown)
provide water quality tests from a NATA accredited laboratory.
If your shutdown requires us to do extra preparatory checks, we may need extra time.
Your shutdown must:
take place between 9am and 11.30am or 9am and 2pm or 11pm and 4am
be no longer than five hours.
Once you’ve submitted your application, we will be in touch in two working days.
Read the terms and conditions
By submitting this form you acknowledge and agree to the terms and conditions.
1.1 This form requires you to upload a site plan that:
is legible
only shows assets relevant to the requested connection work
clearly shows valves and connection points.
1.2 A shutdown is a singular shut-off block. If you are shutting down multiple blocks, you need to submit a separate form for each shutdown.
1.3 Submitting this form is not a booking confirmation. Once you submit this form, we will review and confirm your shutdown request.
1.4 Before your shutdown, you need to arrange for water quality tests to be done by a NATA accredited laboratory. Test results must comply with Melbourne Retail Water Agencies (MRWA) Water Quality Compliance Specification (MRWA specification no. 04-02-2.1). You can find more information on the MRWA website.
1.5 Some works may be subject to a detailed review, including any works that are:
on a main that is 300mm or larger
expected to take more than 150 minutes to complete
happening at night.
In some cases, we may need to do extra checks of the network before we can do a detailed review. This may delay the connection date.
2.1 You must complete all fields in this form and supply a plan or your application will be rejected.
2.2 You must supply water quality results within 48 hours of the planned connection. If the results are not supplied, the connection will be cancelled.
2.3 Planned interruptions must be done in less than 150 minutes to meet our guaranteed service levels. If planned interruptions take longer, we are charged a fee for breaching our guaranteed service levels. We’ll work with consultants and contractors to decrease disruption times and reduce the impact of works.
2.4 If our guaranteed service levels are not met and the planned interruption takes longer than 150 minutes, we may pass on some of the fees we are charged to you.
2.5 By submitting this application, you accept you may be charged:
if you cancel or change the job after you submit your initial application
for any third-party costs necessary for completing the proposed works, like hiring a temporary water tank.
2.6 If your job is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, we won’t reimburse you for any costs.
2.7 If you think your connection work is likely to cause a shutdown longer than 150 minutes you can apply for an exemption. Your exemption request needs to include a detailed explanation of why the shutdown will take longer than 150 minutes. You can submit your request to shutdowns@gww.com.au before or at the same time as submitting this form.
2.8 The time of your shutdown will depend on its location. In residential areas we usually schedule water main shutdowns for 9am on weekdays. In industrial and commercial areas it may be necessary to do the work outside business hours (i.e. on weekends or at night) to minimise disruptions to surrounding businesses. We will consider the impact of any shutdowns on businesses when scheduling the works. Night works are usually scheduled for 11pm.
If your shutdown needs to take place outside of these times, you must provide a reason why in your application.
2.9 If a total fire ban is in place, we will cancel planned shutdowns or connection works scheduled for that day. Total fire bans are often not declared until 5pm the day before, so last minute cancellations may occur. If your job is cancelled because of a total fire ban, you will not be charged a cancellation fee.
2.10 There is a minimum excavation size required for tapping and plugging works. A contractor or licensed plumber is responsible for preparing the site to this specification before we begin work. If the site is not prepared and the minimum excavation size is not met, we’ll cancel the works for that day and charge for re-booking. You can find more information in section 7.4 of our Water metering and servicing guidelines.
