The project will increase the biodiversity in the existing Bug Rug revegetation area by creating seven frog bogs. These clay-lined ponds are ideal breeding habitats for frogs. The project will also plant water cleansing reeds and grass creating a future habitat for platypus in the Kororoit Creek.
My name's Jessica.
I'm the president of the Friends of Kororoit Creek, this beautiful creek you see before you.
The Friends of Kororoit Creek are a group of really passionate locals, retirees,
we've got self-employed people, we've got people from all different backgrounds and communities.
But the one thing everyone has in common, is they're super passionate and involved.
Ooh there's a little skink, a skink, a skink!
Come on babies. They really need this soak actually because they're looking a bit frizzly.
I was originally drawn to the group through litter.
When we first moved here, there was a huge litter problem, there was just massive drifts of litter in the middle of the creek, so joined for that reason and then got sucked into all the beautiful plants and animals and the community as well, the social aspect of working with the group.
The Greater Western Water grant has allowed us to add more layers onto this really great site.
It's so important for groups like ours to get that support otherwise we wouldn't be able to do as much as we do, and we do do a lot.
Volunteers really make money stretch. You get so much bang for your buck with volunteers.
I also love showing people around this site. I mean, you can't shut me up, just every like "Oh butterflies, flowers, birds".
I get really excited about showing people around and also people who are really appreciative of what's going on.
I am definitely a creek geek, we're all creek geeks.
A geek is a good thing, somebody who gets really into something, and we're all really into this creek.
